Now it’s time to get that first line of correspondence out there! We personally feel that “save the dates” are such a great way to get your guests excited about the big day. They can also set the tone for your wedding and provide the guests with a little teaser per se of some of the details about the big day! Around the 4-6 month mark is when we want to see those envelopes hit the post office. Keep reading to see all our favorite ins and outs of save the dates!
Our favorite places to get save the dates
There are so many directions you can go with your save the dates. We think it is important to remember to show a similar vibe to what your wedding will look like. Having a black-tie wedding? You can find a ton of gold or silver foil options that are beautiful and would fit with the theme of your wedding. Opting for a more simple outdoor wedding? A cute engagement photo of the couple would be perfect! A few places we have loved shopping for save the dates include; Vistaprint, Minted, Zazzle, Shutterfly, Canva and Etsy for some super creative ideas! Keep in mind Save the dates can be something you could really save some money on! If you are creative and would like to put your own spin on them we have loved using our Cricut as a budget-friendly option. We also have seen some gorgeous intricate designs on Minted!
Etiquette when sending save the dates
One mistake to be sure to avoid when sending out save the dates is to only send to people who will indeed be receiving a formal invitation to the wedding. Remember this is not an engagement announcement. If you are ahead of the game with starting your registry, that is always something extra to include on your save the dates. Some guests would be appreciative of being able to get a head start on shopping for the shower or a gift for the big day.
However, if you are trying to keep the gifts at your wedding to only cards full of cash then maybe leave the registry listings to the shower invites, personal preference! Remember sending your save the dates out slightly earlier could result in a better turnout for your big day. Again around the 4-6 month mark is when you want to send them out. With the formal invitation 6-8 weeks out from the wedding day.
