If you are anything like me (and probably most of the female population), you’ve imagined walking down an aisle to greet your person on your wedding day. You may have envisioned your partner standing at the end of that aisle tearing up seeing you for the first time. Maybe you picture your partner smiling and just full excitement because the day is finally here. Today, we’ll talk about the pros & cons of a first look and how to decide if you want to do one.
One of my favorite parts of a wedding is when I know the groom has not seen the bride yet and I get to release the bride down the aisle and I can step back and look at the grooms reaction. There is nothing more pure than seeing his raw emotion in that moment. This is also a special moment for you guests to witness too!
So, now you’re thinking about what could go wrong in this moment. It could be too emotional and the bride or groom could be too teary, therefore messing up makeup after you’re already down the aisle. You run the risk of emotions getting the best of you in that moment and then having to carry on with the ceremony. Another common thought is that possibly the groom won’t have as much emotion up there in front of everyone as he would if the bride and groom did a private first look. That intimate quiet time before a big long day could be something the couple really cherishes.
Which leads me into some pros and cons of doing a first look!
It gives the bride & groom a private moment to see each other for the first time on their big day. It also can give them those moments to get out all the big emotions and be more calm, cool, and collected in front of all their guests at the ceremony. Doing a first look is a newer concept and not as traditional. For couples that tend to be on the more traditional end of things the first look could be something they aren’t interested in.
All in all, this is a huge moment for the couple and it is something that the couple needs to be 100% comfortable with. At Monarch, we love whichever choice our couples make.
